Leonardo da Vincis The Last Supper Essays -- Art Painting Religion Es

Leonardo's Last Supper is an extremely valuable bit of craftsmanship with much shrouded meaning and evident abilities gave to a divider. Under the investigation of Verrocchio as a painter and a stone carver, he had the option to utilize his abilities in making a point by point and a naturalistic bit of work that would be associated with many years. He was likewise ready to make characters with astounding independence. Not exclusively was his depiction of the characters heavenly, however the imagery he utilized which accentuated the story being told in the Last Supper. Lodovico Sforza picked Leonardo to make The Last Supper in the refectory of the Dominican Church of S. Maria delle Grazie in Milan. The Abate of the S. Maria delle Grazie saw Leonardo work from morning until night on The Last Supper without eating. In spite of the fact that, there were times he would quit painting for a considerable length of time at once; or, he would chip away at a particular character for only a couple of seconds and afterward leave to keep taking a shot at it later. He took a shot at it from 1495 through 1498 (Strauss, 27). Before Leonardo started painting the real picture, he put down a substance which was assume to retain the tempora and shield the tempora from the dampness on the divider. Tragically, the substance was demonstrated ineffective, and by 1517 it started to break down. In May 1556 a painter Giovanni Batista Armenini said that the canvas was ‘so gravely influenced that nothing is obvious except for a mass of blots'(Heydenreich, 18). The artwork has kept on rotting in the next hundreds of years. It was additionally harmed by rebuilding efforts made via imprudent craftsmen and by the option of an entryway put in the lower some portion of the artistic creation. However even right up 'til the present time his canvas The Last Supper is generally known and visited by numerous sightseers every year. ... ...ical development and mental feeling by the interruption between two incredible feelings which are the immediately hardening at an outrageous purpose of fervor and at the repulsiveness of being surprised out of quietness (Heydenreich, 67). The artwork depicts both articulation and feeling. This blend supplements one another. The articulations permit the watchers to see the feelings the characters are feeling. Their solidified development permits one to see they are human. We can see both their outward and internal responses. It seems as though Leonardo had been there, and he had snapped a photo of the sublime dinner. He certainly cultivated his objective in depicting his Last Supper as a sensible bit of craftsmanship. The imagery, the individualized characters of the characters, and the abilities, for example, the light point of view and spacial viewpoint mixed together to fo!rm a photo like canvas.

Reading Pathway JAMES BALDWIN

Reading Pathway JAMES BALDWIN James Baldwin (August 2, 1924 â€" December 1, 1987) wrote some of the most searing, unflinching, heartfelt, down-to-earth honest writing I’ve ever come across. And that includes fiction and nonfiction, both of which he mastered. Picking up a Baldwin is like jumping back in time: he’s writing amidst the race riots of Detroit and Harlem and the turmoil of the Civil Rights Movement, when ‘Negro’ was the preferred word still in use. But what shows through in his writing is the deep love and compassion that he learned through the struggles of his own existence, being poor, black, gay, and living in America. (For a quick, poetic recap of his life, click here.) Even as he tells it like it is, Baldwin’s message is about love. Just about every sentence is poignantly quotable, and each book is a telling memoir of people living in a hostile country, exploring sexuality, working through racial issues, learning to survive while trying to progress, coming to terms with the world as it was, while hoping that things get better. Whenever I read a Baldwin I can hear the voice of the author in every word and I want to tell him that yes, things are better, but there’s still lots to be done. Read on. The Fire Next Time. To get the overall measure of the man, start here. Referencing a biblical quote (“God gave Noah the rainbow sign, No more water, the fire next time!”), this slim book is comprised of two essays, and one of them is absolutely essential Baldwin reading. His essay to his young namesake nephew, My Dungeon Shook: Letter to My Nephew on the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Emancipation, is Baldwin’s love letter to to a young man who is emerging into a world where he will be treated as less of a person, simply because of the color of his skin. And here is Baldwin’s advice: “You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a nigger.” I tell you this because I love you, and please don’t you ever forget it.” It’s a short essay, it’s heartfelt, it’s memoir-ish, and it is beautiful. Please read it. Giovanni’s Room.  Straight, gay and American. I wish James Baldwin were alive to see the world today. He was a prophet born before his time, and I wonder what he’d make of America, well past desegregation and with a revised civil rights movement, gay marriage recognized and legal in many U.S. states and several countries.  Giovannis Room  tells the story of David, a white American expatriate in 1950s Paris, who proposes to a woman, Hella, only to fall in love and have an affair with an Italian man, the titular Giovanni. Yep, that’s right. The story is told from David’s perspective, all in one night, as Giovanni awaits to be guillotined for the crime of murder. Baldwin’s second novel, the one publishers told him to burn rather than alienate his readers, is not afraid to discuss sexual identity and desires, what we want vs. the conventional life we’re supposed to lead, and the drama that surrounds even the simplest of relationships. Giovanni’s Room is beautifully written, more restrained than his more fiery nonfiction essays, but complex and dramatic and bittersweet all at once. Even as it was published, the New York Times recognized the genius at work, writing that “Mr. Baldwin writes of these matters with an unusual degree of candor and yet with such dignity and intensity that he is saved from sensationalism.” David is a product of his time, when LGBTQ and “gay rights” were not yet born: Giovanni makes him happy, and yet the relationship is wrong, and the only way David can deal with his shame are through the usual avenues, drinking and violence. But even then, Baldwin reminds us of what really matters, in perhaps the novel’s most quoted line:  â€œSomebody, your father or mine, should have told us that not many people have ever died of love. But multitudes have perished, and are perishing every hour â€" and in the oddest places! â€" for the lack of it.” Once youve had a taste of Baldwins fiction via  Giovanni’s Room, if you’re craving more, try  Go Tell It on the Mountain, Baldwin’s first major novel, and a true American classic. It weaves bits of all of the major themes of Baldwin’s nonfiction race, sex, class, identity, the American ghetto and it is a page-turner. If that’s not enough, let Baldwin tell you what it means in his own words: “Mountain is the book I had to write if I was ever going to write anything else. Notes of a Native Son. The best of the nonfiction. Upon his return to America from self-imposed exile in Europe, Baldwin’s friend suggested he compile his essays into one book. “My reaction,” Baldwin notes in the book’s preface, “was not enthusiastic: as I remember, I told him that I was too young to publish my memoirs.” At thirty, Baldwin had already written several highly proclaimed novels, was pals with Marlon Brando, and his play was being produced at Howard university. But he still faced disdain from the publishing world, who told to Baldwin that publishing his open, honest novels would “would alienate his audience and ruin his career.” Baldwin persevered and got his books published, along with the compilation of essays, together inspired by “the conundrum of color..the inheritance of every Americana fearful inheritance, for which untold multitudes, long ago, sold their birthright.” Writing is Baldwin’s birthright, and he claims it in his essays. The book is divided into thirds. The first section are commentaries on literature and the current pop culture reviews, such as you might read in the New York Times or on this very site. Baldwin dissects Uncle Tom’s Cabin with essay Everybody’s Protest Novel; get to the heart of the problem of Bigger Thomas from Native Son (“the most powerful and celebrated statement we have yet of what it means to be a Negro in America”) in Many Thousands Gone; and begins the conversation on what will become Blaxploitation through Carmen Jones: The Dark is Light Enough. Section two is about juxtaposition. North vs. South: slavery-free The Harlem Ghetto, where Baldwin was born, and where he has seen change come, but not necessarily in a good way. This is an excellent self-critique of black media, politicians and leaders. In Journey to Atlanta Baldwin revisits a hotbed of slavery, where his brother returned and felt the discontent of the people still there and their distrust of anyone, including and possibly especially black, from the North. And finally family; in the aftermath of the 1943 Detroit race riots (“To smash something is the ghetto’s chronic need), Baldwin’s father dies; a few hours later his tiny baby brother is born; and on Baldwin’s birthday they bury his father.  This final essay is Baldwin working through a lifetime of not understanding his father, but finally remembering, when it was too late to have the conversation, how his father loved Baldwin and raised him to be a good, respectful and spiritual man, in spite of the hate and hardship all around them. “When his life had ended,” Baldwin writes, “I began to wonder about that life and also, in a new way, to be apprehensive about my own.” The final section deals with Baldwin and the escape to Europe to find his own identity, and the very real and very weird (for the 20th century) experience of finding himself as the first black person. As in the first black person that a lot of Europeans, including the entire population of a Swiss mountain village, had ever seen, in real life. And of the American Negro coming into contact, alien-like, with Africans in Europe, which is a whole other thing. “They face each other, the Negro and the African, over a gulf of three hundred years an alienation too vast to be conquered in an evening’s good-will, too heavy and too double-edged ever to be trapped in speech.” Ok-I realized as I compiled this list that my favorites are Baldwins early works, and there are so many more to chose from. Frankenstein Essay - a Dire Flaw of Victor - 945 Words

Alexander Nowak Medfield High School English 1/6/2011 A Dire Flaw In some novels, the main character often possesses a negative trait which ultimately becomes his/her biggest flaw. The manner of how the protagonist responds to his/her troubles impacts the development of the flaw. One character in particular encompasses a trait that even with his self-awareness, is unaware of the selfishness in his veins. In the novel Frankenstein, the protagonist Victor Frankenstein is this particular individual whose conscience consists of much responsibility but no discipline to show for it. Although he feels responsible for deaths of many others, Victor never confesses when he knows the fault is his. His vengeance almost keeps him away from the†¦show more content†¦Victor’s conscience holds the painful achievement of giving life to a beast capable of murder due to selfishness. The first victim that dies at the hands of the creature is William. Victor’s selfishness is reflected when his creation frames Justine for the murder. Victor states , â€Å"Thus spoke my prophetic soul, as, torn by remorse, horror, and despair, I beheld those I loved spend vain sorrow upon the graves of William and Justine, the first hapless victims of my unhallowed art† (Shelley 60). Victor does take responsibility and admits that he is to blame, but he does not express this to others, only to himself. Nor does Victor fess up to the real cause of his monster’s bloodlust and turn himself in like a selfless individual would. Although his selfishness affects the lives of others, the ones near and dear to him receive much affliction too. The heart of Victor doesn’t show much value throughout the novel. His ultimate flaw blinds him from protecting the ones he loves and replaces it with ignorance. On the wedding night of Victor and his lover Elizabeth, Victor practically epitomizes selfishness. The flaw shows its true colors when Victor instructs Elizabeth to go to the bedroom and hide because he doesn’t want her to see a fight due to his assumption that the monster will confront him and not her: (Shelley 144) I passed an hour in this state of mind, when suddenly I

Federalism and Hurricanes - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 1029 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/02/15 Category Politics Essay Level High school Topics: Federalism Essay Did you like this example? Federalism is how state and national government work together to divide power and functions. It had a great influence on the making of the constitution and its fundamental’s. Federalism impacts all areas of the government from simple local government all the way up to federal government. Like many things federalism has advantages and disadvantages. When it comes to communication and federalism they do not work hand and hand together, as seen during a natural disaster, hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina was the largest hurricane recorded to have touch land in the united states. It had struck the southern coast of the united states the morning on august 28, 2005. So much damage was caused from this disaster, more than 1,500 deaths occurred in Louisiana and about 230 in Mississippi. It left damages over $81 billion and cost about $160 billion. Hours after the hurricane had touch land Communication had shut down completely. Citizens could not contact their local government officials because their cellphones and landlines weren’t working. 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers were knocked over and out of service. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Federalism and Hurricanes" essay for you Create order During the video of â€Å"the storm† it was repeated many times that nobody knew who was exactly in charge to handle the effects of this disaster. This hurricane had exposed numerous of flaws in the federalism approach in natural disasters at each level of government. It showed how unprepared each level of government was unable to communicate effectively to get anything done. Many officials would point fingers on who to blame or who was supposed to do what. In article mega disasters and federalism, it states â€Å"in the face of terrible emergencies the serving grace of federalism is supposed to be its greater flexibility, responsiveness, and capacity to mobilize mutual aid†. Interoperability is when computers or software are to exchange and make use of information. Allowing states to have this freedom is problematic and dangerous to the concept of federalism. Its problematic because we don’t know how much states systems can handle and if they are compatible with the federal communications. The way things had occurred during hurricane Katrina showed how we should reevaluate interoperability and federalism. Hurricane Pam was an exercise that forecasted hurricane Katrina. Everything that had occurred in this practice most definitely did occur when hurricane Katrina had hit. According to â€Å"The Storm† officials had made commitments and gave out false hope in which they would carry in when a certain event would play out. Since FEMAS exercise was cut key planning decisions were not yet made, and many things such as care of patients, communications were not yet announced. A lot of things could have been learned from this practice such as proper evacuation and being able to prepare for such horrible disaster. FEMA is federal emergency management agency, which was in charge to distribute aid to the states and help officials to take care of catastrophic disasters.t This agency was launched by executive order in April 1979. Many people were blaming FEMA for not taking care of the conditions cause by hurricane Katrina. They had received so much criticism even by President Bush. President Bush had established the relief and rescue oppositions were unacceptable and wanted to remove this agency from the homeland and security act. FEMA response is known to be slow, disorganized, and profligate. In Which it shouldn’t be as stated in Crisis communication â€Å"views communication with the public as a one-way street: information is supposed to flow from officials to the public via warnings sent out over TV, radio and other media†. The core problems within FEMA can be solved by many different factors. For example, they can work on issues of deploying slowly by working on quick communication practices. By having quicker communication, it allows them to get relief to those who need it faster. Slow response of FEMA during Katrina was one of the biggest issues at this point in time. Another big issue was, how unorganized they were and organization is a big reason as to why they were hated after Hurricane Katrina. To fix the issue of disorganization they need to go over the roles of each position. They also need to do extensive interviews of the candidates wanting a job with FEMA. The current director of FEMA is Brock Long. He began his administration of the federal emergency management agency in June 2017. He is more than capable in working and serving as a director because he has 16 years of assisting and support local and state as well as federal governments with building emergency managements. A couple days have been going by before President George Bush had associated his self with Hurricane Katrina. He was found vacationing days before, on his way back to the white house his plane had flown over the disaster in which many photographers took a picture of Bush’s â€Å"Grim-Face†. This photo was later released, this picture had citizens talking and realizing he was too distant from the storm and what was actually going on below. He was then invited to visit the area in which he had declined. Although many people were angered by this he thought he wouldn’t want to disturb the rescuing and recovery efforts. Many of bush’s supports said his lack of response and slow reaction to it damaged his reputation. His reputation is still on the line and has yet to recover. Some say he may never recover. People were very disappointed in him, even celebrity Kanye west was accusing him of being racist and â€Å"not caring† for the well-being of black peop le. Many lessons were learned through the horrible disaster of hurricane Katrina. The number one lesson being communication needs to be improvised and number one priority. Some experts believe we may never be â€Å"ready† for something that big to happen but you may want to consider how well your institution is prepared for any kinds of threats and all levels of organizations. A lot of people didn’t know how to evacuate properly or what to prioritize when evacuating, so practicing and knowing where to go when a situation like this occurs can make things run smoothly and let other people know how to help others.

Asbestos Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Asbestos - Research Paper Example Previously, people did not know the risk associated with asbestos and began to use asbestos in a wide range of activities. With the due passage of time and extensive research by researchers, it was found that asbestos were responsible for a considerable proportion of health risk attached with people. People are both directly and indirectly affected by asbestos. People are directly affected by asbestos through inhalation of considerable amount of asbestos by people in their working environment. Asbestos fibers when exposed to air causes air pollution which indirectly affects people. Direct contact with person who inhaled asbestos can also affect the health of people. It was revealed that exposure to asbestos caused a number of health diseases. A few of them were manageable and some were fatal. Asbestos particles which are released into the air are inhaled by humans by breathing or through a membrane called mesothelium. The inhalation of these fibers can make cells more cancer prone. E arlier mainly the mining workers were exposed to asbestos and affected by it, but due to the wide acceptance of asbestos in industries, schools and housing, the number of people affected by asbestos has increased. The consequences of asbestos inhalation are usually associated with the amount of asbestos the person is exposed to, how often the person is exposed and the tenure of exposure. The main effects can result in asbestosis, pleural mesothelioma or lung cancer (Asbestos, 2010). With the increase in awareness of health diseases associated with asbestos, continuous efforts have been made to minimize its impact on human health. In 1970, the Congress in US passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act with a view to protect workers from occupational hazards. EPA also monitors the exposure of asbestos through its regulations which is known as National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants. This regulation

Enlightenment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Enlightenment - Essay Example Enlightenment helps both the individual and the society. For example, suppose a terrorist got enlightenment during a particular period of time and as a result of that he decides to stay away from terrorist activities. In this case, apart from the person, the society will also be benefitted. Take the cases of abortion or divorce. In both the cases, the individual and the society will be benefitted if a person decides to stay away from such activities. Even though, we are living in the most civilized world at present, I cannot say that we are living in an enlightened age. The clashes between cultures, religions, countries and communities are increasing day by day. An enlightened world will never engage in such activities. An enlightened world will give equal opportunities to all. It will never measure human rights based on religious beliefs. It should be noted that thousands of people are being killed every day in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan in the name of war on terror or clashes between communities. An enlightened civilization will never engage in such activities in the name of religion or belief. It should be noted that Lord Buddha after his enlightenment asked his disciples, not to kill any creature in this world. In other words he has asked the public to stay away from killing humans, animals, birds, insects etc. Life is the most precious thing in this world and it should be preserved at any cost. An enlightened world will never think of destroying any life forms.

Network Project Proposal Project Justification

Network Project Proposal Project Justification Network Project ProposalProject Justification: The home network has potential. It adds growth and knowledge. The home network is important to use and access internet connection easily in home wireless network. This network also provide many other benefits as well like as, sharing a file between your computers in your home network, sharing a media file, sharing a folders between your computers in your home wireless network.iStock This wireless network does not cost much and it has many benefits to provide to connect wireless and non wireless devices across the network. The current network is connected via cables so its wired network. A cable goes from study room to lounge and from bed room to main hall. Its not feasible to connect many devices together in home via cable network because its require cabling through out the home and many times just because of loose cabling you have to connection loss. To overcome this hurdles in home network and to connect additional devices easily to home network wireless networking is very beneficial, so I am approaching to upgrade this wired network to wireless network. So the vast benefit of wireless networking like as I can share my files and folders more easily with my laptop and desktop computers. I can access my pictures from desktop computer to mobile device via wireless home networking. To share a printer in your home network wireless networking is more feasible option to choose because, in wireless network we dont need to run a long cable from router to printer. We can adjust the printer anywhere in home and still it will be connected to your computer via wireless connection. Network up gradation provide the benefit of using more wireless clients easily. Project Goals: Next-generation home networking environments will contain a variety of Internet-ready devices or embedded systems, which will result in increased complexity for the end user. New methods are therefore required to build autonomic networking infrastructures that enable auto-configuration and self-management of the networked elements. In future Internet-based home environments a variety of devices such as PCs, smart phones, networked appliances and embedded systems will be organized into infrastructures and will act together to form a new type of service provisioning platform. Todays typical home environments often contain a few of these Internet-ready devices; in the future there will be even more, including embedded systems like sensors and actuators that are also accessible via Internet technology (e.g. TCP/IP, HTTP, Web services etc). While on the one hand this gives users the freedom to access a rich variety of devices in the vicinity of their homes, on the other it increases the depth of knowledge required to understand what is happening in such a complex networking environment. Novel methods for autonomous networking as well as self-configuration, self-management, self-organization, self-protection and self-healing (self-x) of the networking elements can take responsibility for observing and controlling the home network without directly involving end users. Technology will revolutionize the tools that are used in the home of the near future. Embedded computing, sensing and actuation technologies-coupled with new infrastructure in the built environment itself-will combine to enable new opportunities to support the work of the home. The wireless home networking goal is to successfully connect wireless devices such as laptops, desktop computers, VoIP phone, wireless printer, and network storage drive and wifi cell phone. The other goal is to configure the wireless devices so they can share network folders and print wirelessly in home network and to successfully achieve that we need to install wireless router and cable modem in home wireless network. Cost: The cost to build wireless network is illustrate bellow, Linksys E3000 wireless router $180 Cable modem $50 Wireless printer (HP C310a) $150 VoIP Phone $45 Network storage drive (Netgear) $180 The cost for internet connection which is provided by ISP is not included in the proposed network cost. The devices which are used in home wireless network are under warranty by the manufacturer for 3years and the technical support is also provided. Advantages Disadvantages of wireless network: Wireless network have advantages and disadvantages when compared with wired LANs. A WLAN will make it simple to add or move workstations and to install access points to provide connectivity in areas where it is difficult to lay cable. Temporary or semi permanent buildings that are in range of an access point can be wirelessly connected to a LAN to give these buildings connectivity. Where computer labs are used in schools, the computers (laptops) could be put on a mobile cart and wheeled from classroom to classroom, provided they are in range of access points. Wired network points would be needed for each of the access points. A WLAN has some specific advantages: It is easier to add or move workstations. It is easier to provide connectivity in areas where it is difficult to lay cable. Installation is fast and easy, and it can eliminate the need to pull cable through walls and ceilings. Access to the network can be from anywhere within range of an access point. Portable or semi permanent buildings can be connected using a WLAN. Although the initial investment required for WLAN hardware can be similar to the cost of wired LAN hardware, installation expenses can be significantly lower. When a facility is located on more than one site (such as on two sides of a road), a directional antenna can be used to avoid digging trenches under roads to connect the sites. In historic buildings where traditional cabling would compromise the faà §ade, a WLAN can avoid the need to drill holes in walls. Long-term cost benefits can be found in dynamic environments requiring frequent moves and changes. Wireless network also have some disadvantages: As the number of computers using the network increases, the data transfer rate to each computer will decrease accordingly. As standards change, it may be necessary to replace wireless cards and/or access points. Lower wireless bandwidth means some applications such as video streaming will be more effective on a wired LAN. Security is more difficult to guarantee and requires configuration. Devices will only operate at a limited distance from an access point, with the distance determined by the standard used and buildings and other obstacles between the access point and the user. Proposed Solution: find-ip-address To overcome the technical issues take necessary steps to build wireless home network. To solve the wireless range problem with the 802.11b/g, in this network 802.11n wireless standard is chosen. So it will provide wide range of wireless network and it will be enough for small to medium size home. The wireless security is configured so the home wireless network can be protected. To protect wireless security WPA2 personal security encryption is configured and MAC address allocation is also configured so the wireless router will not provide access to any other device and the home wireless clients devices will be secured. The firewall is also enabled on Linksys wireless router so it will provide security from outside. From outside no one can hack your home network and harm the computer systems. The ultimate in wireless security measures, shutting down your network will most certainly prevent outside hackers from breaking in! While impractical to turn off and on the devices frequently, at least consider doing so during travel or extended periods offline. Computer disk drives have been known to suffer from power cycle wear-and-tear, but this is a secondary concern for broadband modems and routers. Summary: To build wireless home network, using this simple three-step approach: 1. Identify the WLAN design thats best for your situation 2. Choose good wireless gear 3. Install gear and test the configured WLAN Wireless offers tangible benefits over traditional wired networking. Each computer you wish to connect to a WLAN must possess a wireless network adapter. Wireless adapters are sometimes also called NICs, short for Network Interface Cards. Wireless adapters for desktop computers are often small PCI cards or sometimes card-like USB adapters. Try to install your wireless router in a central location within the home. The way Wi-Fi networking works, computers closer to the router (generally in the same room or in line of sight) realize better network speed than computers further away. In densely populated areas, its not uncommon for wireless signals from one persons home network to penetrate a neighboring home and interfere with their WLAN. This happens when both households set conflicting communication channels. Fortunately, when configuring an 802.11n router, you can change the channel number employed. For example, you may choose any WLAN channel number between 1 and 11. If you encounter interference from neighbors, you should coordinate channel settings with them. Simply using different channel numbers wont always solve the problem. However, if both parties use a different one of the channel numbers 1, 6 or 11 that will guarantee elimination of cross-WLAN interference. Wireless LANs suffer a few more reliability problems than wired LANs, though perhaps not enough to be a significant concern. 802.11n wireless signals are subject to interference from other home appliances including microwave ovens, cordless telephones, and garage door openers. With careful installation, the likelihood of interference can be minimized. Wireless networking products, particularly those that implement 802.11n are comparatively new. As with any new technology, expect it will take time for these products to mature. Wireless LANs using 802.11n support a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 300 Mbps. Furthermore, Wi-Fi performance is distance sensitive, meaning that maximum performance will degrade on computers farther away from the access point or other communication endpoint. As more wireless devices utilize the WLAN more heavily, performance degrades even further. Overall, the performance of 802.11n is sufficient for home Internet connection sharing and file sharing, but generally not sufficient for home LAN gaming.

The Doryphoros

Can you hear it, the mumbles of children everywhere at the just the mention of year around school, while the parents of these kids start to jump for joy. Would a year round school year help not only our nation but Oklahoma’s concerns about school performance? It is this simple question that starts the debate and battle of the school year. Should we or should we not have longer school days or just go for the gold to say and make school a year round institution. There are many who argue for year round school. They believe that more is always better. United States President Barack Obama is among them. The challenges of the new century demands more time in the classroom. † he stated. I for one think that more hours would not only help American but Oklahoma schools as well. We have all been there, coming in from a long summer break when out of the blue a teacher ask the dreaded question, do you remember how to work this problem? I can still see my blank stare at the chalk boa rd wondering who is going to save me. Shorter summer breaks means students are less likely to incur learning loss, and it may decrease the number of students being sent to remedial classes or to tutoring for help.Oklahoma’s kids are falling below average in science and math. We say that some kids just don’t test well, but it is not the case. The long summer breaks mean less time in the class room to keep their heads in the game. Without a long summer break that leaves less young minds in summer school and more time in the classroom and where the action is. School systems that are already year round have an advantage over the other states that are not. This would provide Oklahoma children with the ability to have a more global educational experience.Countries like Japan, China, and Korea already have this system in effect. Their children test higher, have a more developed level of learning, and they graduate College at a higher rate. The average test scores for U. S 4th grader in math was (539), whereas China’s average was well into the (800). They test better due to them retaining the knowledge learned during the year and years before. Students who test lower cost not only time but money to be spent on the longer educational process. We should not look at it as if it should happen but as in when to start. Before you think man is this person crazy, what about all the vacation plans we made during the summer. With the year round school program it will be easier to schedule family vacations and it will give students opportunity to rest their brain more frequently. It will also help cut down the need for these bright minds of our future to need the re-teaching of skills already learned. Allowing teachers to use classroom time more efficiently not only benefits the teachers but the kids as well. They will be learning more and keeping up with the rest of the world. We fail to realize our children are crying out for help. When we have seniors leavi ng high school with only the reading skill of a 5th grader can we say that as citizens of Oklahoma we did our best to help them achieve their best? I for one believe it is time for us to stand up and say no our children need and deserve more. A family with both mother and father working, that leaves who to care for the kids. Child care is expensive costing more during the summer break. Parents who are just making end meat to supply the house hold with enough to just get by would have more room to breathe.Families would be able to save as much as $750 per month. Families struggle pay the bills, put food on the table, and supply kids with clothing, why add another expense on the already tight budget. With all that being said there are some who believe that year round school would be more of a burdened than a source of help. The budget for food and other bills also raise a question with them. They even go to state that budgets and staffing issues simply may not allow for extended schoo l programs to happen. They say that school maintenance, day to day upkeep and the utilities do not justify the means. You may even hear that students who have difficulty with attention, due to disability are not ready to attend longer periods of time and that it will create some disorder in the classroom. Many budgets and staffing issues have been brought forward as well. How are we to pay qualified teachers the competitive way and it is hard to keep them as well. With all this information being said I for still believe that the pros out way the cons. We need to build a better foundation and it all starts in the classroom. Without the proper education our kids will not secede in the world. We as Oklahoma’s should care more about the education we are sending these children out with than the dollar amount. So as we sit down to listen to the children as they are against this we need to ask do they really know what is good for them. As adults and Oklahomans it is our job to ensure the children grow up with the knowledge need to advance in life. Without the proper education we are saying that we as parents, educators, and adults do not care about the education of our next president, teachers, doctors etc. It is time to take a stand and say yes our education system in Oklahoma needs a change and to place it into action. Before you decide look at the statics of all the other countries that go all year round. There are fewer drop outs, more college graduates and higher achievement in life. We all just want our children to be the best they can be and that starts in the classroom. Why were the major cities of Britain bombed by the Germans in 1940-41?

The Blitz (shortened from the German word Blitzkrieg meaning lightning war) was a period of time when Germany carried out air raids on major cities in Britain. The main reason for the Blitz was that Hitler wanted to invade. The Blitz began on the 7th September 1940 with London being the first city attacked. London was bombed for 56 consecutive nights after that. This was because London is a densely populated area & the Germans knew that it would cause destruction & upset on a huge scale. In particular the bombers focused on the East End as it was home to docks and factories. Other places in London were also hit such as Buckingham Palace and St Paul's Cathedral. This would have made some people very distraught as these buildings were part of Britain's history and what had been destroyed of them could not be replaced. As well as London, towns in the south of England such as Southampton, Bristol and Portsmouth were targeted and attacked because of their dockyards. Without docks England would be unable to send or receive anything in ships overseas. This would have caused havoc with the economy, as vital resources would have been restricted. Hitler also set out for infrastructure and factories to be bombed because if roads, railways, buildings and factories had been ruined. Britain's industry would suffer immensely. Materials to make weapons and military vehicles would be scarce and s this would have a knock- on effect on Britain's progress in the war. Although a large number of cities by the coast were hit, the Midlands were also devastated, particularly Coventry in November 1940. In the North West, Manchester was attacked heavily in December 1940, but it was Liverpool that was the victim of the biggest raid on a mainland city. In conjunction with buildings being destroyed, Hitler also wanted the morale of the British to be shattered. In September alone, over 40,000 people a week lost their homes, their heritage and their memories. 4500 people were killed in November and just in London 12,500 people dies in December. Hitler wanted to crush the British drive so much that they would give up entirely and surrender. As an extract from Goebbels diary on the 1st November 1940 reads, ‘The Fuhrer intends to keep hammering the British until they break'. The British civilians lived in fear that their towns would be bombed. At night the blackouts were put in place. Indoor lights, streetlights and headlights had to be off or covered so they could not be seen from above. This would make it more difficult for the planes overhead to locate their target. At the worst, people had to resort to living in the underground railways which were packed and which were filthy. Another place people took shelter was churches as a first aider on the 14th September 1940 said, ‘ People felt that nowhere would be safer than under the protection of the church. Hitler though that if the unemployed, homeless, withered people of Britain lost their spirit and faith in the Government, then they would turn there back on the British war effort and so Germany would win.

How Does Tattooing Affect Society - 1123 Words

Humans have marked their bodies with tattoos for thousands of years. Recordings of the first known tattoo date back to 2000 B.C. on a famous Egyptian mummy known as Otzi, an iceman, who was found near the Italian-Austrian border in 1991 (Lineberry). These permanent designs—sometimes plain, sometimes elaborate, and almost at all times personal—have served a variety of different meanings. It is up to us to determine the reasoning and significance behind them. Studies have found that people cannot fully control the meaning of their own tattooed bodies. The social contexts in which they live shape the responses to and interpretations of their tattoos by others (Jones 266). Tattooing has changed tremendously in the past couple of decades; virtuosity—improved color and more details, expansive imagery—and socially, to the point where it has â€Å"fully entered the middle class,† (Heller). This is what has caused so much confliction as to why people get tat toos in the first place and the meaning behind them as well as the rising popularity. The very known and obvious reason that people get tattoos is that it is a form of art and self-expression. Some tattoo enthusiasts exhibit a broad array of tattoo expression through a discreet flower on their hip to full-body and facial tattoos. Tattoos are typically frowned upon by mainstream society.
